With the development of economic, extra high voltage and large capacity generator is more and more appears in electric power system. Once the fault happens, it will cause serious consequences, it will cause heavy loss to the national economy. Therefore, the reliability of generator is become more and more important. The turbo generator inter-turn short-circuit of rotor windings is a common fault,so it is necessary to research the inter-turn short-circuit of rotor windings.This paper analyse the reason of fault, introduces and analyse the a variety of fault features. The paper introduces the basic principle of multi-loop theory and the method of constructing model, based on multi-loop theory build the model of turbo generator inter-turn short-circuit of rotor windings, the value of the circular current in parallel branches of generator stator winding and exciting current for different short-circuit turns of rotor winding is calculated to get fault characteistic. The harmonic component of exciting current appears, and with the development of fault it will increase. The experimental results coincides with the calculated ones, the validity of the model is verified. So, the fault electric parameters can be calculated quantitatively by the model, the protection basis for the inter-turn short-circuit of rotor windings has been provided.
