In recent years, tunnel takes an important position in transportation for the advantage of its fast nonstop, safety and stabilization and do not take up the ground space, along with the rapid development of China's transportation business. China is in the position that between the Eurasian seismic belt and the Pacific seismic belt, where earthquake frequent activities. She becomes the world's largest continent shallow sources earthquake activity regions. In tunnel earthquake investigation, the damage of shallow buried tunnel is most serious, and so the research on shallow buried tunnel seismic become one of the important anti-seismic topics in underground engineering.This thesis mainly includes the following aspects:The first one is the followings. The domestic and foreign representative of tunnel engineering earthquake examples, research trends and earthquake damage research methods were introduced. At the time, it summarized the earthquake characteristics and also discussed the existing problems in calculation method of the earthquake response.The second one is the followings. Based on the theory of finite element numerical, the theory of structural deformation energy was deduced. According to the calculation theory of structural deformation energy, the calculation program to get the tunnel lining structure deformation energy under seismic load was made. So that, the the time-history of lining structure deformation energy can be analysed.The third one is the followings. Based on energy principle, tunnel structure deformation energy was taken as one way to study tunnel structure seismic characteristics.The forth one is the followings. The tunnel seismic characteristic was analysed by the method of structure deformation energy. Factors influenced tunnel seismic characteristic were studied, such as rock quality, the setting of the damping layer surrounding conditions, reinforcement of surrounding rock.The fifth one is the followings. On the basis of practical calculation, the analysis of tunnel seismic characteristic illustrated the rationality and superiority of the structure deformation energy method.Finally, it summarised the full text of research work, and discussed the future work.At present, there is still no mature seismic design method for underground structure. The conclusion of this paper studies can work as reference for seismic design of shallow-depth tunnels. The research method of this paper could be provided as a new research method for general underground engineering anti-earthquake design, in order to achieve the purpose of mitigating seismic disaster.
