This paper studies primarily the mechanical properties of steel frame panel zone of column web. Different thickness of joint panel determines its properties,which thick can increase stiffness, otherwise will increase ductiliity and be beneficial to consume energy,both are hard to coordinate. How to enhance the panel zone which can both effectively improve the bearing capacity and improve the ability of deformation is the the key to avoid this contradiction. It is important to studies the aseismatic performance of panel zone which may improve ductility and aseismic capacity of steel frame structures and prevent the occurrence of brittle failure .This paper reviewed the research of our country and others with regard to the joint region.Introduced the standardized procedures of joint region calculation in some states.Devised a set of stiffener steel frame specimen of different forms in joint region and established finite element analysis model,In accordance with the requirements of specification in our country. The specimens include one beam rigid connected common nodes, one solder paste plate model in joint region,one inclined stiffener model in joint region, one additional vertical stiffener model in joint region,one additional model of horizontal stiffeners in joint region. It conduct the load simulation of model specimen under low cyclic loading situation separately. And a comprehensive comparative study was done about the mechanical properties of the node ,on the basis of the stress development, failure modes, hysteretic behavior, ductility and energy dissipation after the simulation.In addition, Based on the additional oblique stiffening rib model in joint region, this article designed a set of IPZ series of three models, In order to research whether there is connection between oblique stiffener and border, with the reference for the engineering.The results of ANSYS simultation shows(:1)Under the precondition of the same stiffening plate thickness, welding stick plate or inclined stiffener in the panel zone can better improve mechanical properties of components; welding vertical stiffener or horizontal stiffener is convnient to construction and is simple to make,but doesn't obviously increase the stiffness and the bearing capacity,it doesn't form plastic hinge in the grider when damaging.(2)Welding stick plate or inclined stiffener in the panel zone can excellently improve the structures'bearing capacity, hysteretic performance , energy dissipation capacity and ductility performance and has the same effect. But from consideration of the project cost ,welding stick plate cost prodigiously when the column section size is larger, so when the thickness of the panel zone does not meet the relevant requirements calculations ,it is better to weld inclined stiffener to inhance its stiffener.(3) To ensure the component has enough capacity and stiffness and ductility, in practical projects it needs to ensure the oblique stiffener to column or flange with stiffening rib which is effectively welded together, or control in some reasonable range.
