Coal ignition is the key in the coal combustion process. Therefore, it is significant to study the ignition characteristics of the pulverized coal combustion. Only when these characteristics have been thoroughly understood, it is possible to take effective measures to ensure stable ignition and strengthen the combustion to resolve some of the burning problems, and thus enhance the safety and economic in the operation.O2/CO2 combustion technology is a new-friendly combustion method. It has great advantage not only in the catch and utilization of CO2 but also in the control of contamination. In order to solve the problem of unstable combustion under Oxyfuel combustion, MILD-Oxyfuel combustion is brought. But under the new combustion condition, relative fundamental research relative to ignition is scarce. As for the new combustion method, we adopt a new direct observation method to study the ignition of particle. Flat Flame Entrained Flow Combustion System and high speed camera are used in this method. After calibration experiment, effective images of particle combustion are successfully captured. By proposing the research methods on determining the ignition point and the temperature of combustion particles, and developing a set of image analysis methods on extraction of coal ignition points and characteristics of luminescence of pulverized coal particles along the path, a number of factors affecting pulverized coal ignition have been identified. under different temperature conditions, the ignition characteristic of Datong bituminous coal and Daqing brown coal in different atmosphere (O2/CO2, O2/N2) and different partial pressure of oxygen are thoroughly studied in Flat Flame Entrained Flow Combustion System. It is revealed that the ignition time point advanced with the increase of the oxygen concentration. In CO2 atmosphere, the presences of CO2 delayed the ignition under low oxygen concentration condition. In addition, the ignition time advances with higher concentration of particles.
