Combustion enhancement technology is emerging in recent years. It's a new application of Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD), and the essence of enhancement is that it could generate a large number of non-thermal plasma during the DBD process, and the collision of high-energy electrons and neutral molecules often causes molecular dissociation, molecular excitation, even molecular ionization, resulting in a large number of active particles, thus affecting the chemical balance of combustion systems, and accelerating the chemical kinetics of burning process.According to experimental and theoretical researches resultes, it is found that the discharge effect is better under nanosecond pulse discharge instead of a continuous discharge to generate continuous plasma under the low power DBD.Two kinds of low-voltage circuits have been designed: second-order resonant charge & discharge circuit and third-order one, while both are based on the requirements of generator, using capacitors as energy storage components and thyristors as switching devices. A trigger control circuit is also designed to control the low-voltage circuit, implementing real-time display by programming codes.Two kinds of pulse compression forms are used in high-voltage part of the generator: Blumlein Transmission Lines (BTL) and Transmission Line Transformer (TLT). They can compressĪ¼s width pulse, generated by low-voltage circuit, to ns width pulse. In this paper, it is been presented the theories and detailed designs of this two types of transmission lines.A simulation of the low-voltage circuits, BLT and TLT has been completed based on Multisim to verify the accuracy of the designs. Simultaneously, the influence of the stray inductor on the rise time and amplitude of the output pulse has been researched.Experiment tests show that the performance of generator is stable and qualified. BTL can generate a voltage square pulse of 8kV with rise time of about 15 ns, pulse duration of about 100 ns, and pulse repetition rate of 500 pps. TLT can generate the voltage pulse of 30kV with rise time of about 25 ns, pulse duration of about 100 ns, and pulse repetition rate of 500 pps. Also, the voltage gain of TLT is about 2.5. The performance shows that the generator can be used in the experiments of combustion enhancement. Finally in the paper, a summary is given to indicate the lacks and future researches of the generator.
