According to the characteristics of current construction practices in China where"economical" and "traditional" green landscape design exist because of the unreasonableallocation of resources in the process of urbanization and modernization, and from the amethodological point of view, the "multiple" evaluation theory and technical framework of adisciplinary road green landscape was proposed in this paper by meeting the requirements oflandscape architecture of fully absorbing the experience of the Western Enviromental Assessment,learning and taking advantage of technological achievements of the more well-known experts,combining the interdisciplinary theory and methods of psychology, environmental psychology,sociology, environmental quality and landscape ecology.This paper argues, the road green landscape which make the valuation of the users' maindemand its priority, different from the objective ecological quality assessment paradigm whichtake the material and technical standards as core. And it can affect the direction of developmentof environmental design in essence. The paper advocates the subjective evaluation be added tothe various stages of the design process to enhance the objectivity of the environmental designand users' satisfaction of the outcome.On the basis of analyzing the theoretical characteristics of the environmental assessmentas well as the developmental level and direction of domestic and international disciplines, thepaper presents the "objective–subjective" evaluation theory and methodology, which is basedon empirical research and with a dialectical materialism as the methodology.The theory claims that the road green landscape evaluation should adopt an open andpluralistic assessment concept, fully integrated in terms of both quantity and quality to implementthe multi-angle, multi-means, multi-direction to close to the common research goal of "multiple"assessment techniques to integrate the use of principle, in order to enhance the credibility andeffectiveness of the evaluation.Empirical research methods are adopted in the case of Kunshan City urban freeway greenlandscape evaluation studies to reach such a conclusion of the technical feasibility of the"multiple" methods. The assessment techniques are summarized at the application level. Thereare four parts in this paper:Part one (Chapter I): It is a systematic exposition of the development and the problems ofdomestic and international environmental assessment theory, methods and practice. And itclarifies the research objectives and significance of and evaluation topics.Part two (Chapter II): This part describes the background and concept of the urban freeway green landscape evaluation, and the basic content of investigation.Part three (Chapter III, Chapter IV): Indepth exploration Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)and scenic beauty estimation (SBE) are both applied to specific evaluation of the green system ofKunshan City urban expressway.Part four (Chapter V, Chapter VI): In this part, the evaluate conclusion are obtained fromthe previous evaluate results,the application of which is clarified as well. The experiences ofroad green landscape evaluation theory and methods are summarized to explore the solution ofthe problem needed improved during the process of assessment.
