Ultrasonic motor (USM) has a wide perspective in many areas, its unique friction drive mode determine that the properties of friction and wear of the interface has important effect on the performance of USM, meanwhile, it makes the contact state of USM with defects which is difficult to overcome such as time variable and nonlinear, in some extent, it restricts the application of USM. Predictably, the research of USM friction and wear characteristics has the vital significance.Based on the operating principle of USM and the characteristics of interface, combined with the contact model of traveling wave ultrasonic motor, Applied a specific parameter such as initial preloading, load or the amplitude of stator, the changing regularity of properties of USM is studied with the wear of the friction material, and then the friction and wear characteristics'prediction model of USM is established, and based on this model the friction and wear characteristics'prediction software of USM is complied.Comparing various wear measurement method, the surface profile method is selected to measure the abrasion loss of the friction material of USM. Considering the existing conditions of laboratory and the requirements of measuring precision, appropriate instruments is selected. The test results of ten rotors'sampling show that the principle of this test is correct and the methods are feasible. The software used to automatic calculate abrasion loss and the software used to artificially calculate abrasion loss are compiled to handle sampling data.The experiment scheme is determined, the variation of parameters, including incentive voltage, initial preloading and load, its impacts on the wear amount and surface morphology of the friction material of ultrasonic motor, and the performance of the motor were studied, which provides guidance for the design optimization of ultrasonic motor and friction material, and choice of the operating conditions of motor.
