In recent years with the construction and development of the ports in our country, general cargo terminals have made continuous improvements in their loading and unloading abilities. As the special lower deck equipment for general cargo terminals, crawler type lower deck cranes are also required to meet the requirements of the developing ports for their capabilities and structures. The boom is the key part for a crawler type lower deck crane and whether it is designed well is the crucial factor for the overall functions and costs of the machine. Besides the possession of enough strength and rigidity, the crane boom needs also to be light and dexterous enough. While to reduce the weight of the crane boom itself through optimal design is the major approach to enhance its economy and reduce the costs.In this paper, the HC300D crawler type lower deck crane boom is the research object, based on the optimized design theory and finite element method, this paper analyzes the structure of the crawler type lower deck crane boom, establishes finite element model on the basis of ANSYS finite element analysis software, and conducts the static analysis of the structures and modal analysis of the boom, so that this article obtains the stress distribution and deformation of the boom under dangerous working conditions. The results of the analysis show that the boom satisfy the designing requirements for strength and rigidity. After that, this article chooses two measurements for the section of the boom, the width and the height, as the variables for the design, take the requirement of strength and rigidity for the boom as the constraints and the minimum volume of the boom as the objective function, achieves the establishment of the parametric modeling of the boom with APDL, the customizing language of ANSYS, and optimizes the measurements for the section of the boom. The reasonability of the optimized results is approved by checking the intensity and rigidity.The researching work of this paper realizes the finite element analysis and optimized design of the boom of the crawler type lower deck crane and the optimized boom is lighter in deadweight and more rational in its structure, which provides the designers basis for improving and optimizing the structure of boom.
