As one of the most important load-carrying parts of crawler cranes, the boom system is the spatial girder grillage, which generally adopt the finite element method to aid design. During the design and strength calculating of the boom system, the process"preliminary design-modeling-analysis-revision-re-design-re-modeling-re-analysis"is carried out repeate-dly. According to the requirement of FEA (Finie Element Analysis) soft, every revision of the structure needs to rebuild the finite element model, so there must be plenty of repeat work.What’s more, there are many cases for crawler cranes, a large number of models need to build while conducting finte element analysis.To solve the problems mentioned above, based on the actual engineering and requirements of the design for the jib structure of a certain crawler crane, this paper has built mechanical model, has extracted characteristic parameters, and has established the reasonable element, load and the constraint conditions for the jib structure. ANSYS Parametric Design Language that is APDL has developed finite element analysis program of the jib structure of crawler crane, and it mainly includes parametric finite element modeling, static analysis, modal analysis, transient analysis, and carrying out the strength and the stiffness of the boom in accordance with the results of the analysis. The total weight of the jib structure is optimization targets, to optimize the cross-section size of the structure which can available more economical and reasonable structure. This paper has developed a software interface with the Visual Basic language, and has established the data tables by Access database tools that can afford the data to calculation.The various parameters and the full results would be saved in the form of the text.This system can encapsulate and call the the finite element analysis software ANSYS, to form the parameterization finite element analysis.
