Free piston permanent magnet linear power generation system has became the research focus in vehicle power plant as its advantages, such as good adaptability in fuel, high efficiency of combustion, compactly structure and high density of power. In this paper, the permanent magnet linear alternator was analyzed which using in power generation system. The simulation model was built using the combustion model of internal combustion engine and the alternator model. Simulations were carried out based on the system's model. This paper mainly carried out the following researches about the system. In order to achieve low mass of the stator, high power density, a novel structure of moving permanent magnet linear generator was proposed. Characteristics of the motor's armature reaction magnetomotive force were analyzed from the theoretical point. The method of calculating inductance parameter was also given. The alternator's model was established in the finite element analysis software. Static and transient analyses were also carried out using the finite element software. The motor's basic parameters were obtained such as electromotive force and inductance parameter. Cogging force is an important problem of permanent magnet motor. In order to minimize the cogging force fluctuations, the permanent magnet width were changed in the model. The optimal pole arc coefficients were obtained by finite element analysis. The combustion model, linear motor model and circuit control model were established in Simulink. Combined those models together and got the systems model. Through the simulation, we get the motors motion characteristics such as running speed, electromagnetic force and power. At last, the co-simulation model was built using the motor's finite element model instead of the numerical model. Some useful results were obtained from the simulation.
