With the fast development of society and economics, fossil fuels such as coal, oil are overused. Human are confronted with severe crisis of energy. Exploration of new energy, including solar and wind energy, is imperative. New energy takes a significant part of the future energy structure of power system. As a method of using new energy, distributed generation technology is flexible, dispersed and can rationally utilize renewable energy. It has been developed a lot. However, the randomness and fluctuation output of renewable energy such as solar and wind power will affect the power quality, and will impact the system when connected to it. In this situation, the distributed generation system will influence the safety and stability of the system. Addition of a energy storage system can improve the distributed generation system, where the disturbance can be compensated, balance between sources and loads can be obtained, stability of voltage and frequency can be maintained.Flywheel energy storage system is to store power as kinetic energy, using high speed rotating flywheel. It is characterize by fast response, effective energy conversion, non-pollution and long life. It is suitable for distributed generation system as an energy storage equipment, to solve the randomness and fluctuation of new energy. With flywheel energy storage system, smooth output of the new energy sources can be achieved, which is much more convenient for these sources connected to the grid. As a dc source, one of the basic requirements for flywheel energy storage system is to keep a stable output voltage during discharging.With this purpose, this paper proposed the control method and strategy for discharging of flywheel energy storage system. First, the structure and principle of flywheel energy storage sources is introduced, and a discharging circuit and control method of flywheel energy storage system if presented based on it. A simulation model and experiment system is made according to the discharging circuit. The control method of discharging is realized on the experimental platform with C language. And the method is verified by experiments.
