Because of compact structure, small occupation area, low noise, no fire risk, longmaintenance cycle, high reliability characteristics, GIS has become the mainstream ofelectrical equipments in Substation. Due to very high field strength in GIS, when theequipment has some defects, there will be partial discharge. Partial discharge is one ofthe main reasons of equipment insulation deterioration in GIS.This paper proposes the use of UHF signal fast locating partial discharge sourcesas well as with ultrasound signal with the realization of The UHF and UE combinedprecise localization of partial discharge source approach: first, using UHF sensor onGIS positioning analysis, to determine the discharge power supply range. Then theUHF sensor and the ultrasonic transducer is the two positioning analysis, to realize theaccurate positioning of insulation defects, improve efficiency.Research and development of the virtual instrument based on the UHF and UEcombined GIS partial discharge detection and positioning device. Simultaneousextraction of partial discharge signals of UHF information, high frequency currentinformation and ultrasonic information, based on the comparative analysis of threekinds of signals, can effectively eliminate interference, improves the partial dischargelocation accuracy and the accuracy of flaw identification. And the use of projectdeveloped the UHF and UE combined GIS partial discharge test device in Shanghai, accurate detection and localization of several running GIS internal defects, through thetimely elimination of defects, and prevent the GIS equipment failure caused the loss ofequipment and the outage.
