In the high-grade highway construction of our country, to meet the needs of alignment, the subgrade style of high fill embankment is unavoidable adopted. The auto-settlement and slope stability of high fill embankment are key factors to road safety and performance.The improvement of the finite element method provides a effective numerical analysis method to analyse the auto-settlement and slope stability. This paper builds the elastoplastic constitutive Drucker-Prager model and uses the finite element method to analyse the auto-settlement and slope stability of high fill embankment. It discusses the factors that influnce the auto-settlement of the high fill embankment, and analyses the post-construction settlement under different embankment heights and different slope styles. From the results, the influencing law of the two factors on the auto-settlement is concluded, which provides theoretical ground for improving and perfecting the construction craft of high fill embankment. Based on the existing analytical method of slope stability, it detailedly introduces the fundamental and analytical process of using the finite element method to analyse the soil slope safety coefficient. And it uses this method to analyse the change law of the slope stability with the change of embankment heights and slope styles. At the same time, to check the reliability of using the finite element method to analyse the soil slope safety coefficient, the traditional Bishop method is compared. The main work conducted is as follows:1. Conclude the typical constitutive law of soil, compare the characteristics of different constitutive laws, and determine the constitutive law of fill material suitable for the nonlinear finite element analysis of auto-settlement and slope stability of high fill embankment.2. Use the nonlinear finite element method to discuss the factors that influnce the auto-settlement of the high fill embankment and analyse the post-construction settlement under different embankment heights and different slope styles to obtain the influencing law involved. 3. Conclude the existing analytical method of slope stability and detailedly introduces the finite element method of analysing the slope stability of high fill embankment. When it uses this method to analyse the change law of embankment slope safety coefficient with the change of embankment heights and slope styles, the traditional method is used for comparison, to check the reliability of using the finite element method to analyse the soil slope safety coefficient.The results show that, it's reliable to use the elastoplastic constitutive Drucker-Prager model to analyse the auto-settlement and slope stability of high fill embankment, and the embankment heights and slope styles have regular effects on the auto-settlement and slope stability of high fill embankment.
