With the high-speed development of industry, noise pollution has become the globe problem. The aeroacoustic noise is one of the main noise sources. Installation exhaust muffler is the effective method for noise reduction. There are a lot of experimental and theoretical researches in the literature. However, numerical studies are less published and reports in this area are mainly focused on applying the commercial software or within the framework of structured grids which has limited applications for the simulation of muffler. The present thesis focuses on the development of numerical methods for the simulation of muffler.Numerical algorithm for general transport equation based on unstructured grid is presented, which includes discretization, boundary condition and velocity-pressure coupling.Simulation results on 2-d processes approve the programs. And wave frequency, grid size and time step that affect the results of simulation are analyzed and calculated. And mathematic analysis offers research which will be done in the future. With the DRP non-reflecting boundary conditions, acoustic wave propagation in static flow and in mean flow are simulated, which is used to validate this method. This article has designed a muffler model by GAMBIT software. After simulation of muffler by calculational procedure and FLUENT which is one kind of CFD software, the simulation results are contrasted. And this can instruct to muffler modification.
