Masonry structure has a long history of culture in our country and is still widely used in various constructions. But due to its material's brittleness features, masonry structure's bending strength, lengthening strength and shearing strength are relatively low, so the seismic performance of masonry structure is poor. Furthermore, with masonry's existence time increasing and improvement of seismic defensive criterion, it is more and more important and urgent to strengthen these structures. In recent years, new materials of glass fiber reinforced plastic[GFRP] which becomes popular in civil engineering, provides a new approach to the strengthening of masonry structure due to its low weight, high strengths, easy handing, good applicability, and will be great used in masonry structure. This paper focus on the seismic performance and finite element analysis under loading of masonry wall strengthened with GFRP carrying out the following research:1. Three experiments of seismic contrast test have been observed of 4 strengthened by GFRP and 2 comparing brick walls under low period reciprocating horizontal loadings. The three groups like this: no GFRP nets, stick 1 layer GFRP nets, paste 2 layer GFRP nets. Through recording destructive change shape, displacement data and different load intensity data, this paper summarizes the different improvement of masonry's seismic performance with different layers GFRP nets; and test results of strengthened specimens are compared with the gathered ones. The experiments show that the seismic capability of masonry wall such as cracking loadings, ultimate 1oadings and ductibility are dramatically improved after being strengthened with GFRP.2. Specimens of the experiment are simulated and analyzed by using the finite element analysis method. First of all, model reinforcement masonry wall and finite element calculation. Then, walling limit state of the stress distribution to compare test value and finite element calculation values. The results of the study show that, GFRP nets reinforced masonry's brittle failure modes was turning into ductile failure. All the result suggests that this paper technology call significantly improve the ultimate compression strength and it will have a bright future.
