Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is an important peripherals of computer information systems, communication systems, data network centers and so on, because it can stabilize the grid voltage and frequency to improve power quality. When the grid power off or voltage sag and surge, computer data can be protected. Combination of Z-source inverter which appeared in recent years, this paper presents a new UPS topology. The structure and working principle of the UPS is analyzed detailed. And a 5k V A Z-source UPS system is simulated with MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation results show that the UPS system theory is correct and feasible.The introduction described research and development status of UPS and Z-source inverter, then many advantages of Z-source inverter compared with traditional voltage-source and current-source inverter was explained. Finally in this section Z-source inverter application prospects and research content of this paper were introduced.The working principle of UPS system and Z-source inverter were analyzed respectively in the second and third chapter. This section also compared the control strategy and working principle of both Z-source inverter and the traditional inverter. At last, the possibility what Z-source inverter can be used in UPS was proposed.A new UPS system topology based on Z-source inverter was given in the fourth chapter, and its control strategy was explained. Then the main circuit parameters of the system were designed, as well as a voltage and current loop control system model.Chapter V gave a model of the UPS and the results of simulation. The results of simulation proved that the new UPS theory is feasible and correct.
