Human history is a process through which we make a stand against natural catastrophes. Earthquake which will be come with secondary disasters is one of the most harmful natural catastrophes undoubtedly. Although we make great efforts to study earthquake through many generations'efforts, the time when earthquake happens,the place where earthquake happens and the earthquake intensity are still world famous puzzles. The way for us to deal with earthquake is still using earthquake fortification passively. According to information we have, the earthquake fortification measures which we use now is to divide our country into earthquake fortification zone and Non- earthquake fortification zone, and earthquake fortification zone;of different regions is divided into several districts with different grades of "earthquake fortification intensity". Because the happening time,place and intensity of earthquake are still world famous puzzles, the way to confirm "earthquake fortification intensity" has born defect indisputably, in fact earthquakes which surpass "earthquake fortification intensity" always happen, and cause gigantic economic losses and casualty, such as Tangshan Earthquake which happened 30 years ago, so are "11.26" Ruichang Earthquake which happened in Jiangxi province 2005 and Wenchuan Earthquake which happened in May 12th 2008. The top principle of "Love life,People foremost" which earthquake fortification represents is how to make buildings "not collapse in large earthquake",is also the most important aim of earthquake fortification.In Wenchuan Earthquake which happened in May 12th 2008,there are about 70 thousand people died of buildings'collapse, the number is so huge that shock the peoplle severely, and also inspire Engineering personnel's efforts to make the buildings keep standing up in large earthquake.Although Wenchuan Earthquake has got more and more further from us as time goes by, it brings us not noly gigantic economic losses,huge casualty,brocken cities and countries, but also many precious experiences and lessons. This article is doing; further analysis and investigation through the first-hand data which cost professor about 3 months to collect in earthquake-stricken area of Sichuan province, combining with two important methods of anti-seismic construction:1,seismic concept design of buildings.2,robustness theory of structures. We develop several aspects of investigation detailedly as follows:(1)We analyse earthquake damage of masonry structure,reinforced concrete structure,steel structure,timber structure(including town buildings) detailedly, and find the main reason of causing earthquake damage.(2)Based on the ideology of seismic concept design of buildings and the possible earthquake damage of different kinds of structures, we find effective methods to achieve anti-collapse under large earthquake and verify the effect of these methods.(3)Using robustness theory of structure, based on actural earthquake damage of different kinds of structures, we propose systemic and effective ways for different kinds of structures to achieve "not collapse in large earthquake" innovatively.
