With the development of science and technology, the field of structural engineering ischanging fast. A variety of new technologies and methods push the level of building toa new height. The level of the construction in our country has made great progress. Witha new batch of construction specification, architecture form is more reasonable andsecure in our country. But the field of the structure design still has many urgent problemthat is worth exploring.British Ronan Point apartment gas explosion in1968and the America "911" incidentmade people fully aware of how to prevent the building collapsed progressively hasbecoming a pressing matter of the moment in the field of structure design. In order tomeasure such structure’s ability to resist progressive collapse, scholars have put forwardthe "robustness". Because the "robustness" research on the structure is more inclined tothe stereotypes, how to study the "robustness" from a quantitative point of view iscurrently a big problem.In recent years, earthquake disasters continue to occur around the world, China alsooccurred violent earthquake in Wenchuan and Yushu twice, which brought hugeeconomic losses and casualties to our country. From the survey in earthquake region,frame structures suffered more serious damage compared to the shear wall structure,how to improve the ability of frame structures to resist the earthquake disaster hasbecome a pressing matter of the moment. This paper analysis the "robustness" inquantitative afresh, based on the previous research on the structure of the "robustness".Robustness is the capability to resist the accident damaged, the robustness is related notonly with the component importance in the overall structure but also the redundancyrate in whole structure. This paper proposes a new robustness of quantitative indexes,and this idea is not only related to the whole system, but also proposing a robustnessindex related to each structure member, this paper also put forward some ideas fordesign which is related to robustness index. The components are removed one by one,through the finite element calculation of seismic bearing capacity, the result of seismicbearing capacity is combined with importance coefficient results into the formula tocalculate the answer which is the robustness of component. Accumulated eachrobustness of component will be the robustness of the whole structure. With loading thesame earthquake, we can illustrate the influence of each component on aseismiccapability and robustness of the difference is very big by removing different structural components and calculation. Finally, through the comparative analysis of differentstructural members proves the rationality and applicability of the newly proposedrobustness formula.
