Since it takes small areas and long transmission lines and can be combined with the process of drying, vertical vibration material conveying is more and more widely used in the chemical, food, medicine and other departments in recent years.Discrete Element Method (shorted for DEM) is a numerical method for analyzing granular material mechanics, and mainly be used for the study of rock and other non-continuum initially. It can simulate the interaction of the discrete elements in details, and be suitable for simulating the contact and collision of the discrete combinations. In recent years, it also has application in the study of material conveying. This article introduced DEM be used in the research of material conveying, took the vertical vibration conveyor in the laboratory as a model, achieved the motion simulation of vibration conveying through the simulation software EDEM.Based on the process of vertical vibration conveying, this article established the judgment methods of material particles contact with each other and particles contact with boundary, and established contact mechanic models with Hertz contact theory; Taking the vertical vibration conveyor as the example, we build up the geometry model of the conveyor, through EDEM simulate the process of vertical vibration conveying, analyze particles' movement trajectory during the simulation, and analyze the process of material conveying. Then we can design the experiments after the dynamic analysis with the considering of vibration amplitude, vibration frequency and material layer, and get the needed data through the post-processing functions of EDEM. Taking advantage of Neural Network Toolbox in MATLAB we can do the function approximation of the data, and get a trained neural network, optimize the parameters that can impact the productivity of vertical vibration material conveying. Finally, doing experiment verify the digital experiments through the vertical vibration conveyor in the laboratory, in the experiment,making use of the high-speed camera we can observe some phenomenon that occurred during the conveying, then compare the results with the simulation, and achieved good results.
