With the rapid development of the social economy, the demand of conventional fossil energy for human activities is increasing incredibly. Our world is confronted with series of threats brought about by the fossil fuel-based energy system:natural resources depletion, environmental pollution and ecological deterioration. It is predicted that the conventional source of fossil energy cannot satisfy the demands of human development.Wind power, as a clean and renewable energy, has become a new competitive method of electricity generation. Because its advantages of environmental-friendly feature and low expenses, the developing wind power technology has obtained the attention from the countries around the world.A comparative research on the Horizontal axis wind turbines and the Vertical axis wind turbines based on the theories and the practices of commercial wind turbines will be utilized in this thesis. With the background of the geographical distribution of wind energy resources in China, and the weather merits in particular regions with small winds all the year and seldom strong winds, this research chooses Senegal wind turbines as the experiment wind turbines. Besides, various performance parameters which are good for automatically launch of Senegal wind turbines under the situation of low wind speed will be chosen for the experiment.The performance analysis of the Senegal wind wheels will be researched by the use of the simulation analysis and the wind wheels'experiments. The CFD software FLUENT have been selected for the analysis. Firstly, it is confirmed that the fluid model made of the wind wheel and wind deflector is two dimensional unsteady, incompressible and viscous fluids, the governing equations use the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model, which are discrete by 2nd-order upwind schemes, Pressure-Velocity Coupling choose SIMPLE(No Gravity). And then, the comparative analysis will be given based on the pressure contour picture, vector contour picture, velocity contour picture, fluid particle trace charts by the Senegal wind turbines with the wind deflector.In the experiments, the wind wheel with the diameter 200mm will be made after the setting of the amount of Senegal rotor blades, semi-cylindrical plate radius, rectangle width and location. Accordingly, the design parameters of the wind deflectors fitting into wind wheels are obtained in order to make physical models. By the use of wind tunnel experiments, anemometer, tachometer, transducer and other equipments, the research firstly focuses on the different performances of the wind wheels under the different design parameters with and without wind deflector. It can be concluded that the addition of wind deflectors enables to enhance the performance of wind turbine greatly.In order to further find the size of the installation angle of the wind deflector, by the use of orthogonal test, the specific angle degree of the wind deflector can be measured. At the end, the previous specific degree of the angle is the right one as a result of the wind tunnel experiments.
