The paper aims at designing a set of leak detection system in water distribution pipelines. The system consists of signal acquisition board and processing board. The signal acquisition board first collects the sound data from a leak pipe, and sends the data by wireless transmission; the signal processing board receives the data and carries correlation algorithm out, so that the system finds some leak source positions. The following is development and research work in the paper.1. According to the system specifications and requirements, several important parts of the system are discussed, such as hardware platform, signal processing, measuring distance, positioning accuracy, and then the scheme of the system. And the design framework of the leak detection system is determined.2. In this paper, several primary hardware parts are designed including signal acquisition unit with MSP430 and ADS8321, analog signal processing circuits, wireless modules based on nRF24L01, the data acquisition and buffer unit based on EP1C6Q240C8, the algorithm implementation unit with TMS320VC5509A, the display and control unit based on MSP430.3. The system softwares accomplish the clock management module and data acquisition module by SPI soft nuclear. In addition, the DSP correlation algorithm is done by calling for library functions in DSPLIB. Finally the device drivers of keyboard and LCD panel are designed.The paper gives the results of experiments and simulations to the system. The tests indicate that the hardware work properly and the software could give correct results. The paper proposes some improvements to the design problems.
