In view of the serious lightning accident to transmission line in mountainous area in Shaoguan where the landform and the geology is complex and changeable and the weather condition is wicked and the lightning motion distribution is wide and the intensity is high and the width is density.Three transmission lines of the 500kV Quhualine and the 220kV Mamoline and the 110kV Wentieline are selected as main objects of study by on-the-spot investigate and the suggest given by the experts of Shaoguan power supply bureau.We collect the paths and the measures to lightning protection and the records of tripping opertiongs of the lines .The earthing resistance and resistivity of the soil around the tower is measured and the circumstances of the lines are surveyed. The causes of lightning accidents are those which the earthing resistance is too high,the lines of high tower and big span are exsist largely,the complex landform and geology in mountainous area influences,the phase sequence problem to the lines which setted on single tower exists, the angle of protection of the big wind fluences.The lightning protection measures are induced.Firstly,the spots which are often subjected to the lightning are finded by analyzing the selectivity of lightning and the microcosmic landforms passed by the transmission lines. Sec-ondly,the back flashover and shielding failure is indentified by analyzing the initia-tive waveshape simulated by ATPDraw programs and the features of the towers themselves.The integrated different pertinent lightning protection measures are brought up to the feeble spots of the transmission lines in the mountainous area. Fi-nally,the paper selects.the best lightning protection measures to the transmission lines in the mountainous area in Shaoguan.The important theory evidence and the practical reference value to the design and the function of the transmission lines in the mountainous area is provided by the study of the paper.The conclusions of the study are also expanded to the similar transmission lines in the mountainous area.The measures of the study are enlighten-ing subsequent research.The measures proposed are not only the practical applica-tion value but also the direct economic benefits and the social effects.
