With the quality requirements of power supply and the requirements of safe and reliable operation of power grid. Reactive power optimization as an important measure to improve power quality and reliability is getting more and more attention. Reactive power optimization of distribution system is the effective means to improve the power quality, reduce the power losses and enhance the reliability.Capacitors as an important device has been widely applied in reactive power compensation. The optimal capacitor placement is that how to determine the optimal capacitor location, size and type. The reasonable capacitor allocation can improve the system voltage levels, reduce the system active power losses, improve the system security and stability, and increase the capacity of the system. The improved particle swarm algorithm is applied to solve the problem. And two improved methods are used in basic PSO which are changing the weight of inertia and altering velocity of particle swarm, making the improved PSO high efficiency in searching for the best solution in the global area.In this paper, the concept of distributed generation and several popular distributed technology is introduced, and It analyse the impact after adding the distributed generation systematically. We study that how to determine the distributed generation location, size and type of operation, and analyse the active power losses, distribution of voltage and the reliability after adding the distributed generation. In this paper, a optimal distributed generation placement model of multi-objective is created and the multi-objective particle swarm algorithm was applied to solve the problem. Reasonable placement can give full play to the advantages of distributed generation and inhibit its negative effects...
