Glass curtain wall began a large-scale applied to building envelope structure since 1950s, however, the building's air conditioning and heating energy consumption was greatly increasing due to the traditional glass curtain wall insulation properties far less than traditional wall, with the end of the century energy crisis, solar energy prices, forcing people to think about the form of a more-efficient walls. As a new form wall, double skin fa?ade was considered as an ecologically meaning structured in recent years to be widely used in Uropean countries. It provide a thermal buffer layer for the building, in the winter the passive solar potential has been recognized, instance have been built in Europe to provide sufficient evidence. But it's heat capacity in summer has been criticized. Does it able to be used in hot summer and warm winter zone? How to improve it? The article will explore.Considering the thermal performance is complex and the structure of the double skin fa?ade is complicated, the classification and the development of the double skin fa?ade was introduced at first, then the author gave some actual cases of double skin fa?ade in foreign. Based on the climate characteristics of hot summer and warm winter zone, the author researched the structure design, sun-shading design, rain and pest control design and the natural ventilation design of the double skin fa?ade, using the existing design methods, the author and his partners built a double skin fa?ade and tested the thermal performance in the winter and summer condition and the factor was analysed too. At the end of the article, the author used the test data as the boundary condition of CFD software, compared the simulation results and the test results to verify the reliability of the software, on this basis, the author analysed different forms of height, width, sun-shading impact on the thermal performance of double skin fa?ade in summer. In the end, the lack of the research in this article was summarized and outlooks for research areas of the double skin fa?ade future development were listed.
