Suspension bridge is a kind of bridge structure type, and the main bearing component part of it is the tension in cables. Based on the summary of this bridge type development and research situation at home and abroad, the paper discusses the characteristics of the bridge type and the main points of the design of the suspension bridge. Factors in the area of the bridge that plans to build in north branches of Oujiang river, such as climate, hydrology, engineering geology, earthquake, shipping, are considered. According to the structure design features and technical standard, combined with the terrain, rivers hydrological, geological, requirements of navigation and environment influence, the paper discusses the location and the structure scheme. Three schemes,800+800m steel box girder suspension bridge, 800+800m composite beams suspension bridge,868+868m steel box girder suspension bridge, are put forward. Considering for the structure design and calculation ana lysi s and compari son of the three schemes, especially overall static performance, bridge tower and foundat ion stress, (270+800+800+325) m stcel box gi rder suspension bridge is the very scheme that has a beautiful type, reasonable force performance and moderate cost.
