It is a challenge in the field of acoustic signal processing to detect a small target in the shallow water or the offshore areas. In recent years, the rise of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detection method provides a new idea for the detection of small target. In this dissertation, we focus on small target detection within the collocated MIMO processing framework. On the basis of characterization of underwater acoustic channels, the collocated MIMO processing framework has been investigated, and five orthogonal waveforms have been designed. MIMO detector and estimator have been derived and evaluated under the assumption of Gaussian background noise. After analysis of the reverberation statistical properties, a K-distribution based MIMO generalized likelihood ratio detector has been proposed. At last, the MIMO detection experiments in a lab waveguide tank and Qiandao Lake have been carried out, and the experimental results have shown that MIMO target detection approach can effectively improve the detection of small target in comparison with the conventional phased array method. |
