Heat meter is the core instrument to measure and display the heat energy in heating system. In China, with the widely implementation of household measurement of heating and national charge system, the development and using of heat meters will format large-scale industrial structure and a broad market will be greeted. The traditional mechanical heat meter has a series of problems such as high requirement of water quality, large loss of pressure, easy abrasion of mechanical devices, low ability of anti-disturbance and so on, which is hard to fully meet the market demand. With the development of modern ultrasonic detection technology, ultrasonic heat meter has been studied more and more in China. There is no doubt that ultrasonic heat meters will become the mainstream in the next few years. But now the domestic ultrasonic heat meter has some problems in the aspect of stability and measurement accuracy. It is still needed to be analyzed and improved.In order to analyze the reason why the domestic ultrasonic heat meter has those problems, on the base of extensive reading of domestic and foreign literatures about heat meter and according to ultrasonic heat meter's working principle and designing rules, an intelligent ultrasonic heat meter was invented. Time-difference method and TDC-GP21 chip were adopted in the heat meter. The related experiments were designed to analyze the existing problems of ultrasonic heat meter. In this essay, the main research characteristics are listed as follows:(1) Flow measurement program was optimized to improve the precision. This essay detailed the software correction method of the temperature effect on ultrasonic flow measurement.(2) According to the matching experiment of ultrasonic transducer. Using the pairing ultrasonic transducers can reduce the measurement error which ultrasonic transducer brings. So the measurement accuracy can be improved. According to the zero drift research of ultrasonic heat meter's flow measuring, ultrasonic transducer is the main factor which causes the problem of zero drift. So ultrasonic transducer's performance will directly influence the measurement accuracy of ultrasonic heat meter.
