Along with the rapid development of China's automotive industry and the continuous improvement of the computer technology, computer aided engineering technology become more and more important. It combines a variety of advanced methods and technologies to improve product quality, shorten the development cycle and cost etc. So it is widely used in automotive industry.Referring to the distortion of hydro-cylinder and the fracture of crossbeam welded joint that appeared frequently in a certain type dump truck, analysis and optimization of the dump truck are carried out with ADAMS and ANSYS. The failures are ruled out after improving the stress of weak parts. In this paper, ADAMS was used to establish the virtual prototyping for dump truck lifting mechanism and analyze their dynamics simulation. It improved the ability of lifting mechanism by optimizing lifting bodies'location. ANSYS was applied to build the FEM of dump truck. The load acting on the dump truck and the method of applying the load to the finite element model of the frame were extensively discussed. Based on the FEM mode, static and dynamic responses of the frame were simulated and analyzed. Finally, structural optimization of the dump truck was carried out by adjusting the design variables, state variables and objective functions to meet the actual needs. In this paper, virtual prototyping technology in the dump truck lifting mechanism's design and development of all aspects made detailed discussions of the role. Meanwhile, FEM was used to analyze and optimize the frame. Such an attempt was valuable both in academic research and in practical technology.
