Virtual cockpit, as part of helicopter computer-based training system, provides the main human-machine interfaces for pilots. On the one hand, it obtains the manipulating information of pilots; on the other hand, it indicates flight information, controlling order information and warnig information by means of virtual instruments. With the development of virtual reality technology and equipment, loop simulation cockpit based on PC is widely used. With real project as the base, after mastering design requirements of the system, the paper gives an overal design about military helicopter virtual cockpit. It employs real sense manipulating devices and virtual instruments based on PC to simulate environment of inner helicopter cockpit. The size, shape, position and basic function of hardware is based on real device. It uses specified data acquisition cards and self-designed microchip circuit board to acquire sensor data of manipulating devices. The main control computer is in charge of data processing and driving virtual instruments by network. GL Studio is utilized to develop virtual aviation instruments and operating panels based on object-oriented technology. A method to add observing and sighting image to multifunction display using GL Studio and Vega Prime is designed and realized. And on that basis, attack simulation module is developed for the system.Through debugging and running, the virtual cockpit system is user-friendly and has good performance. It not only meets flight and fire-control training needs, but also can be a helpful experimental platform for weapon and fire-control demonstration and estimation research.
