The hydraulic autofrettage process can significantly improve the elastic carrying capacity, the working process stress distribution state and the fatigue life of the barrel. It is widely used in the manufacture process of the barrel. Adopting the numerical simulation methods to optimize the process parameters is necessary due to the complex physical process of the autofrettage and cutting.The formula of the optimum autofrettage pressure under the opening-end tight condition of the thick-walled cylinder for ideal elastic-plastic model is derived and the new evaluation criterion for the optimum autofrerrage pressure also proposed to supply the deficiency of the existing evaluation criterion. The autofrettage process of the barrel which endures the the optimum autofrettage pressure is simulated and analyzed by using FEA software ABAQUS to obtained the residual stress distribution state. And then, the paper accomplishes the discussion of the influences of the Bauschinger effect and the reverse yield of the material on residual stress and the analysis of the residual stress distribution characteristic in the transition section of the barrel.In addition, the cutting process of the barrel is also simulated and analyzed. The simulation experiments, based on the orthogonal test method, are arranged so that the relationship among various parameters can be discussed. Specially, the effects of the inner and outer cutting thickness and the overstrain percentage on the ultimate bearing capacity of the barrel are deeply analyzed which provides the basis to revise the barrel blank physical dimension, re-select the thickness of the inner cutting and the outer cutting. The analysis can help redefined the autofrettage pressure is redefined. To verify the autofrettage effects, the chamber pressure loading process is simulated by implicit code and explicit code.Finally, aimed at the above study, the VB and Python language based secondary development of the ABAQUS is applied to develop a parametric analysis software platform for the analysis of the autofrettage and cutting process of the barrel. And the application examples of the software are given in the paper.This study provides a certain technical way and brings convenience to the selection of the hydraulic autofrettage process parameters.
