Electronic parking brake (EPB) system is an emerging brake by-wire system for automotive. Although the traditional parking system is still applied to most of vehicles, the automobile manufacturers are working on the R&D of the EPB system at home and aboard. Currently EPB has been put into mass production and been applied overseas, but EPB is still at test procedures in the domestic. As the forward direction of the vehicle brake system, far-reaching significance will take place both at the macro on the automobile and the micro on brake. Development and design of EPB control system is studied and developed in this paper.Based on the comparison between EPB system and conventional parking system, the GB on parking system and the specific requirements of EPB are analyzed, the entire program is planned and feasibility is analyzed. And then the hardware and software of the EPB control system are designed in respectively. In the part of hardware, the MCU controller, the sensor (including the angle sensor, the motor speed and steering sensors, parking pulling sensor) and execution motor are selected, and the circuit schematic is designed. In the part of software, based on the basic functions (including normal parking, the conventional unlock parking) and extended functions (including intelligent automatic parking, assistant hill starting, emergency braking during moving, forced removing of parking, automatic shutting down and waking up for energy saving), corresponding control strategies are made separately.The system has passed the test on test bench and real vehicle. Experiment platform is designed. The foundation of this platform is the IPC. Devices including CAN adapter card, AD data acquisition card, pushing and pulling sensor are adapted to simulate the state of vehicles. With these devices, the EPB system is monitored and performance situation is recorded. After achieving the desired results, the system is set into real vehicle for the practical application inspection. During this experimenting course, all functions of EPB were tested, and experimental data was recorded and analyzed.The experiments show that the EPB system meets the design requirements, fulfills all functions, completes prototype development tasks, and achieves satisfactory results.
