With the concept of Smart grid was put forward,the key part of advanced metering infrastructure- watt-hour meter,also meet some new requests.The watt-hour meter not only need to accurately measure the electric power that used,but also required to communicate with others,compose a network,interacts with the customers. Consequently,to develope a watt-hour Meter that meet the request of Smart grid is a urgent need of electric power system.This paper introduce the background and purport of the research first, and overview the present research condition and development trend of Smart Meters,then introduce basic measure principle and related communications technique, emphasize to analysis the applied of ZigBee technique in Smart Meters.This paper particularly designed the hardware and software of the watt-hour Meter With ZigBee Communication Function.In hardware design,first give out a totally design,then have a design of measurement module,management module,ZigBee module and in-home display module.The measurement module adopt a professional integrated chip 71M6515,which increased the credibility of design and reduced the period of development. The management module is designed base on the RENESAS mcu M16C/62P,the peripheral circuit include real-time circuit, memory circuit ,infrared circuit, RS-485 circuit is also designed. The ZigBee module adopt the TI's leading Soc CC2430, accompany with other peripheral circuit to form a ZigBee node. ZigBee module connect to the watt-hour Meters using serial interface and insulate with opticalcoupler,by in addition an LCD with chinese library and keys to buildup a In-Home displyer. In software design, first give out a design of management module software, introduce the totally design of the software,mainly illuminate the part of communication and storage function;Then have a design of ZigBee module's software. Have a analysis of ZigBee stack and transplant it contrapose the design's requirement,then detailedly introduce the software design of ZigBee module that connected to Smart meters and smart In-Home displayer.Finally we did a test towards the measurement and ZigBee communication function of watt-hour meters,and illuminate the result of test.The test of measurement accuracy and error mainly include active power error test and reactive power error test. According to the test of Networking and actual data transfer of ZigBee module,it's feasibility that the ZigBee technology is suitable to apply in the watt-hour meter communication.
