Aerial work platforms are widely used in ships, municipal building, fire fighting, portcargo, construction, logistics and other areas. An aerial device or elevating work platform is a mechanical device used to provide temporary access for people or equipment to inaccessible areas, usually at height. Its design has higher requirements for the machine than the average. Force analysis and structural analysis for the aerial work platforms are necessary. In this paper, a 25m telescopic booms aerial work platforms'super structure is taken as research object. Working conditions of the super structure are discussed. And theoretical modeling and virtual prototype based on the working conditions of the supper structure are established, and motion simulation are done. Also, the strength and the bulking of the supper structure are analyzed according to the simulation results. Researches of the paper are as following:(1) The topics of the background and significances are ntroduced. And then the development of domestic and international status of aerial work platforms is described. Also, the researches of super structure of telescopic booms aerial work platforms are discussed.(2) The working conditions are discussed according to the operating range of the aerial work platform. Mathematical models of the movement of the luffing mechanism, the leveling mechanism and the boom are established. And then, using MATLAB software, the theoretical forces born by boom are calculated on the side rated load condition.(3) Ideas are applied to impose driver constrains of leveling cylinder by using the mathematical relationship between the length of luffing cylinder and the length of leveling cylinder. And it is received good performances to achieve the function of leveling mechanism to keep the work platform horizontal. And then the virtual prototype of the supper structures of the aerial work platforms is established. The forces born by the boom on the working condition are simulated and compared by the theoretical force. The comparative results show that the virtual prototype is reliable. Then using the virtual prototype gain the forces born by boom on the working conditions when the friction factor is taken into.(4) According to the simulation results, harsh working conditions are discussed. The wind load and inertial forces in the slewing plane suffered by the supper structures are calculated according to ISO standards and Australia standards. In the ANSYS Workbench environment, FEM models of the boom and the slewing platform are established. Then the strength, stiffness and bulking performances are analyzed. Also the structure of slewing platform is improved to meet the Australia Standards.
