While building road and bridge on the soft soil, the subgrade settlement as well as the differential settlement between bridge and adjacent roadbed is a long-term hassle faced of the engineering. Generally speaking, control settlement is of two sorts:the one is to reinforce the soft soil foundation under embankment, as can improve its strength and compressive deformation resistance, in that to reduce compression deformation when overlying embankment loads is the same; the other is to reduce the weight of filled embankment, so as to decrease the overlying embankment load, reducing the degree of compressive deformation of foundation and embankment settlement. Whereas the foundation treatments of general engineering can scarcely ever be solved these hazards.Embankment lightening is one of the effective ways, which is now acknowledged internationally, to prevent the bridge-head bump and other hazards as a result of uneven settlement. And the use of lightweight filling materials in embankment lightening construction method is the most noticeable way. This thesis research a new type of lightweight filling material--Flowing Expanded Polystyrene Lightweight Mixed Soil--to achieve the embankment lightening.To the question, this thesis is composed of the following content:1) With soil-site materials, EPS pellets, cement, fly ash, water as raw materials, this paper takes advantage of orthogonal experimental design theory to make a series of laboratory material formulation test research to analysis the factors which influence the fluidity (consistency) of new mixture; and to investigate the influencing factors of its working performance, in the meanwhile, to study the influence of the varied fly ash ratio to the working performance and the intensity of growth of the new mixture.2) The tests of this thesis determine the mix design parameters, discuss the general method and techniques route in the mix design of the flowing expanded polystyrene lightweight mixed soil, and study and research the formula equation involved in the application of practical engineering in accordance with the two design indexes of flow value and compressive strength.3) This thesis is to test the mechanical properties of the new material, including unconfined compressive strength test, the stress-strain bearing capacity tests and CBR test and so on, so as to study the mechanical properties of material and the law of material components.4) Outdoor construction methods research, which is based on the construction characteristics of bridge abutment, is intended to apply similarly cast-in-situ concrete construction methods without vibration, to make the formulation working performances of new material to self-leveling and self-compacting, in short of construction duration and difficulty, and to propose the management of construction technology and quality of the flowing expanded polystyrene lightweight mixed soil.
