Study On The Design Of Thematic Scenic Byway Based On CSS

Along with social progress, the public have made more various requests with higher standard. Not only have they been considering about the traffic fluency and safety of the road, but also they have began to pay attention to safeguard their own interests, protect the environment, reflect the history and culture, and express the art and aesthetics. Under the directions of the ideas, the US Transportation Department have been used CSS to design the highway system which stably improved the quality of the landscape. Recent years, many areas of China have started to build sustainable scenic highway. However, with the lack of systematic and mature idea, the practice has certain blindness and has brought various problems. As a result, we need seek for some new ideas to solve them.Scenic Byway is a kind of scenic roads, which is worthy of being preserved and rehabilitation, with quality of scenic, historic, recreational, cultural, archeological, or natural features. Not only the road it self, but the corridor landscape along both sides of the road within the field of vision. Nowadays, the study of scenic byway theory in China has just started. With a compared perspective the thesis focuses on design and plan for cases of different themes with the CSS, analyses the model of plan and summarizes the key points of design, in order to improve the theoretical study and practical build activity of different types of scenic byway. There are mainly four parts in this thesis:Firstly, the background, purpose and significance have been described, and CSS, as the study object, with the definition of thematic scenic byway, has been given. Meanwhile, based on the summary of research about CSS and thematic roads plan and design at home and abroad, with some theories of other subjects, the theoretical base and paradigm of thematic scenic byway plan and design have been concluded. Secondly, the developing situation for four types of thematic scenic byway, including historical and cultural type, scenic type, natural type and leisure type, has been analyzed. Besides, with the method of case study, the cases of different types and subcategories have been studied, in order to summarize the plan and design procession of every case from the perspective of CSS.In addition, based on the cases, the plan and design structure of thematic scenic byway has been founded under the guidance of CSS. And, the similarities and differences of plan and design procession for different types of scenic byway have been founded by the contrastive analysis of four types of scenic byway.Finally, the conclusion has been made. The deficiencies and the contents which need improving have also been mentioned.
