The rapid development of computer aided design (CAD) technology has brought constant innovation in ship design. Three dimensional design has gradually become the main method for ship design in replacement of two dimensional design. Computer aided design software such as TRIBON, NAPA, CATIA, and FORAN has been widely used in the field of ship design and production. which has greatly shorten ship design and production cycles, improved shipbuilding quality and scientific management level, accelerated the process of automated production.Interference detection has been a very important aspect in the field of computer aided design. Designer can remove the error in the design easily and continue following work. Interference detection in ship design field is usually for ship piping structure, rarely related to the hull structure model, while three-dimensional modeling of hull structure is of great importance in three-dimensional ship design. It is not only the basis of calculation of ship, it is also the basis of two-dimensional drawing.This paper analyzed the existing interference detection algorithm, and divided the interference detection of ship structure model into three types, plate with plate, profile with profile and profile with plate combined with the characteristics of ship hull structure. And chose axis aligned bounding boxes (AABB) as the basic collision detection method based on the existing interference detection algorithm, used non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) as the expression of ship hull curves and surfaces. And conducted in-depth study of different types, proposed precise intersection methods respectively combined with the characteristics of different types. Besides, it is normal that one component ran through another in ship structure, in order to avoid the occurrence of error in detection, this paper also proposed method to exclude the situation to save detection time and improve the detection efficiency. Finally, with the secondary development platform FDE provided by FORAN, this paper verified the algorithm it proposed.
