Coal tar pitch(CTP) is the remnant of distillation process for coal tar whichmade by Coal carbonization. Compared with petroleum pitch, CTP shows thebetter properties such as strong permeability, wettability and tight adhesion tothe mineral aggregate. CTP as paving materials in high-grade highwayconstruction is the main research of the coal chemical industry and highwayindustry. The purpose of this paper is to study and evaluation on pavementperformance of CTP modified asphalt and its mixture, and provide technicalsupport for CTP material in the promotion and application of the project.This paper study on mixed asphalt by blending coal tar pitch and petroleumasphalt, and discuss mixed condition including stirring mode, temperature andCTP addition amount for blending coal tar pitch and petroleum asphalt. Theresult show that mixed conditions have the important effect on coal pitch'sdispersion in petroleum asphalt. It is study on the matching ability betweendifferent kinds of CTP and petroleum asphalt by component analysis. The resultshow that asphaltenes and insolubles in coal tar pitch can increase the softeningpoint of the system, but also the asphalt ductility have reduces. Colloid contentin the coal tar pitch have a greater impact. for system scalability.For further performance verification of mixed asphalt,a comprehensiveevaluation of mixed asphalt and its mixture compound modifier roadperformance. It was found that compare to the base asphalt, mixed asphalt haveget a better improvement in high temperature stability, aging resistance andadhesion of the stone. Temperature susceptibility of asphalt is little changed.Low temperature performance of asphalt is weakened.Comparative experimental studies were conducted with mixed asphalt roadperformance. Through its high temperature stability, water stability, lowtemperature cracking resistance. The result show that compare to the mixture ofpetroleum asphalt, the high temperature stability and water stability of the mixedasphalt mixture had a better effect, low temperature performance of the mixed asphalt mixture is little changed. The mixed asphalt mixture able to meet therelevant requirements of Technical Specification for Construction of HighwayAsphalt Pavements.Finally, a comprehensive modification of Test Section, and further validationof the mixed asphalt and its mixture of the various properties of composite.
