| Energy is the foundation and driving force of economic development. Entering the 21st century, many conventional energy sources are facing depletion, and for this reason how to solve the energy problem has become a common question around the world. In this context, whether the rural areas, particularly rural areas in developing countries, can find out a new way of economic growth that different from the city built on high energy consumption becomes an important topic today. Biomass energy is a kind of energy with biomass as the carrier, which is stored in biomass in the form of chemical energy converted from the solar energy. It is got directly or indirectly from the photosynthesis of green plants, and can be transformed into conventional fuels. Being renewable, it is the fourth largest energy after coal, oil, and natural gas, accounting for 14% of the total energy consumption in the world. Currently, many countries in the world are devoted to developing and using biomass resources. As a kind of biomass energy, biogas is taken into use early in China. Hubei Province, with its varied topography, is an important grain producing area in our country. It is located in the transitional area in climate between the north and the south. The biogas in rural places, particularly the household biogas in rural areas is developing rapidly; however, bottlenecks have emerged in the current development process of biogas using. Consequently, it has important theoretical and practical significance to explore and analyze the constraints, advantages the potential of developing household biogas in rural areas of Suizhou. This paper takes the development of household biogas in rural areas of Suizhou in Hubei Province as the research object, adopting literature searches, comparison analysis, empirical study and questionnaire as the main research methods. Through systematic analyses of the characteristics, constraints and development potential of developing rural household biogas in Suizhou city, this paper proposes that the development of household biogas in rural areas of Suizhou city is mainly constrained by concept of farmers, living habits of peasants, methane technical defects, slow development of biogas related industries, incomplete biogas service system, improper administration and programming, and the absence of biogas-related market. While because of the positive policy environment and strong government support, the development of household biogas in rural areas of Suizhou city has huge potential in the further promotion of household biogas, the increase of overall efficiency, the contribution of energy conservation and emission reduction, the progressive improvement of service system, and the biogas-based development of new clean energy. On this basis, several policy recommendations are given in the paper:first, to actively guide the comprehensive utilization of biogas in order to get greater benefit; second, to promote the industrialization of biogas to propel the biogas development; third, to strengthen and improve the rural biogas service system construction; fourth, to work hard in carrying out active training and return visit; fifth, to incorporate the development of household biogas into the energy saving and pollutant reduction system. |
