The red imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta Buren is Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Myrmicinae, Solenopsis. It originates in the Parana River of South America, was one of the most dangerous and devastating pests in the world and has invaded several provinces of South China. It is not only harm to human heath, animals, agriculture, also to public safety and ecological security. Domestic and foreign researchers have done a lot of work on the red imported fire ant control. The method including nest boiling water treatment, digging nests, mechanical destruction, a burning, nest fumigation, nest perfusing pesticides, bait method and other control methods. Chemical solution and applying bait are the main measures for red imported fire ant in last year. However, as the reduction and elimination of chlordane and mirex, these two measures should be adjusted and improved according to the property of alternative chemicals. Thus, we have done some research on the chemical control techniques of red imported fire ant Solenopsis invcita (Buren). The main results of this study were as follows:1. We have done some research on the screening control chemicals for the red imported fire ant, mainly on the chemicals toxicity test, We found that Abamectin, Fenoxycarb, and Indoxacarb had strongest toxicity in nine chemical compound. The red imported fire ant mortalities of three chemicals were 95% at a dosage of 128μg/ml after 12 d. The toxicity results showed that sulfluramid, chlorfluazuron and regent had toxic effect for small workers of S. invcta. Through the biological activity test, sulfluramid, indoxacarb and fenoxycarb shows obvious effect to the S.invicta.2. The toxicity results showed that Sulfluramid and Fenoxycarb had not obvious toxic effect for small and big workers of S. invcta in all observation times. In the observation time, the toxic effect of sulfluramid and indoxacarb for big and small workers of S. invcita were increased, and had significant increase after 6 days. In the 5 Sulfluramid and indoxacarb pesticides mixture ratio, the toxic effect of sulfluramid and indoxacarb (1:4) pesticides on the S. invcita small workers than the single chemical as the observation time and efficacy continued long time. The results showed an significant synergies, and the toxic effect for big and small workers strengthened as the observation time. So, the sulfluramid and indoxacarb (1:4) pesticides have been used for attractant.3. The results of the field test showed that the mortality of nests were respectively 65%, 79% and 95% for 100,200,400μg/g Sulfluramid and Indoxacarb poison baits after 5 weeks. The results suggested that sulfluramid and indoxacarb (1:4) pesticides can lead to the death of the entire fire ant nest, to avoid the migration of the nest, enabling the effective control of red imported fire ant populations.
