The article selected eight tree species of fire-preventing forest belts in Xuyi county, investigated the moisture of fresh leaves and branches and the maximum water-holding rate of withered leaves and branches and investigated some indicators of fire-preventing by a cone calorimeter in laboratory, and investigated the microclimate characteristics of some forest belts.Comprehensively, the results of the study were as follows:(1) The moisture of fresh leaves and branches and the maximum water-holding rate of withered leaves and branches at 8 tree species has significant difference. The moisture of fresh leaves, fresh branches, leaf litter and branch litter in Populus tomentosa was highest among of 8 tree species. Ligustrum lucidum, Magnolia grandiflora, Pittosporum tobira and Camellia oleifera were secondly higher. The maximum water-holding rate of leaf litter in Platycladus orientalis and Phyllostachys glauca were higher than those in other 6 tree species. However, the maximum water-holding rate in fresh leaves, fresh branches and branch litter were lower. The maximum water-holding rate of withered branches in Cinnamomum camphora was significant lower, and of fresh leaves, fresh branches and leaf liter were in medium. The moisture loss of fresh leaves and branches and withered leaves and branches also has different characteristics. Fresh leaves and branches moisture loss in M.grandiflora and P.tomentosa was the slowest, while P.orientalis and C.oleifera were fastest. Withered leaves which have slower moisture loss was P.tomentosa, M.grandiflora and L. lucidum, and C.camphora was faster.(2) The ability of fire resistance from strong to weak among of 8 tree species leaf were Populus tomentosa,Camellia oleifera, magnolia grandiflora, Phyllostachys glauca, Platycladus orientalis, Cinnamomum camphora, Ligustrum lucidum and Pittosporum tobira. The ability of fire resistance from strong to weak among of 8 tree species branches were magnolia grandiflora, Ligustrum lucidum, Platycladus orientalis, Cinnamomum camphora, Populus tomentosa, Camellia oleifera, Phyllostachys glauca and Pittosporum tobira. The ability of fire resistance from strong to weak among of 8 tree species were Magnolia grandiflora, Populus tomentosa, Ligustrum lucidum, Camellia oleifera, Platycladus orientalis, Pittosporum tobira, Phyllostachys glauca and Cinnamomum camphora respectively.(3)The forest lands could reduce soil temperature, air temperature and wind speed, and increase air relative humidity effectively. Almost all the microclimate indicators between open air and forest lands have significant difference, and the microclimate indicators among all forest lands mostly have significant difference.
