Growth traits and wood properties were tested and analyzed, which contained68families in a7years old on BaiSha Forest Farm, Fujian province. The main results were as follow:1. Conclusions from variance analysis showed that there were significant differences amongthe wood increments, the fiber morphology, the wood basic density, the micro-fibrilangle andthe holocellulose of Pinus massoniana within the families, there wereno differences among thewood basic density, the fiber length, the fiber length-width ratio and the micro-fibrilangle. Theindividual plant can not be selected to some degree on the basis of the selection of fine family.2. According to the correlation analysis among the indexes of Pinus massoniana,it showsignificantly positive correlation among the height of tree, the DBH and the volume of wood, the correlation coefficient ranged from0.5396to0.9897. The correlation coefficient among theheight of tree, the DBH and the volume of wood were all greater than0.7, it were0.7364between the height of tree and the volume of wood and0.9650between the DBH and thevolume of wood, the high-producing family in volume of wood can be gained by selecting andmeasuring the DBH.The wood basic density was positively related with the fiber length, the fiber width, the fiberlength-width ratio and the holocellulose, and was negative correlated with the micro-fibrilangle.The micro-fibrilangle was negative correlated with all other characters. There was weakpositive correlation between the holocellulose and other characters, which can be regarded asindependence inheritance. The height of tree was positively related with the wood basic density, the fiber length and thefiber width, but was negative correlated with the fiber length-width ratio, the micro-fibrilangleand the holocellulose content. The DBH was positively related with the wood fiber width, butwas negative correlated with other characters, case also was such for the volume of wood.3. A comprehensive selection index equation constructed with Pinus massoniana's volume, basic density, the fiber length, the fiber length-width ratio, micro-fibril angle, the holocellulose:I=969.7656X1+98.8485X2+18.2616X3+1.0215X4+4.0521X5+4.3257X610superior families were selected with15%selection rate according to the comprehensiveselection index, the10superior families were3,6,12,13,22,23,25,33,50,59. The improvedeffects were11.9461%,9.5759%,4.1595%,18.2438%,5.5397%,1.8775%, compared withcomparison。...
