Rauvolfia vomitoria is an important material plant, which has long been used to extract the active component—reserpine for hypotensive drug. For studying different cultivation conditions to the growth, photosymthesis, biomass accumulation and Reserpine production of Rauvolfia vomitoria, the effects of three factors, including three light intensity levels of 15%,40% and 70% of natrual light intensity, fertilizing amount (40g,60g and 80g per individual plant) and fertilizer proportion of N and K (1:2,1:1, 2:1), have been studied.Among the three factors, light intensity was the most important one, fertilizer amount was the second important one to Rauvolfia vomitoria. And the effects of the interactions among these three factors were significant (p<0.05).The height, base diameter, the relative growth rate of height and base diameter, Pn and biomass of Rauvolfia vomitoria decreased along with the decrease of light intensity, owing to the increase of shading. Meeanwhile, water use efficiency(WUE), chlorophyll content(Chl), chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b(Chla/Chlb) and the ratio of root to stem(R/S) increased.Fertilizer amount had a very significance to the growth of height, base diameter photosynthetic physiology parameters of Pn and WUE, part biomass and the biomass allocation. The effects of the fertilizer amount were different under different light intensities. Under the condition of meddle and lower light intensity, the height, base diameter, Pn and the whole plant biomass under light level fertilizer amount was higher than that under meddle level fertilizer amount, which both were higher than that under heavy level one. However, it showed that the values of the height, base diameter, Pn and the whole plant biomass were higher under middle level of fertilizer amount than those under light level of fertilizer amount, while the values were the lowest under the heavy level of fertilizer amount. We can conclude that the combination treatment of higher light intensity and meddle level of fertilization was the optimal treatment of the 27 treatments setted by us. When under the same potassium fertilizer, the reserpine content was the biggist under the treatment of middle level of light intensity and heavy nitrogen level, next was the treatment of higher light intensity and miderate nitrogen level. However, the reserpine yield per plant under higher light was higher than that under middle level and lower light, and in the higher light, the reserpine yield per plant was the highest under miderate nitrogen.
