Carya cathayensis which is a valuable timber species are widely planted in Lin'an. Itplays an important role to promote the economic.Canker is a momentous disease whichaffects the growth and yield of Carya cathayensis in Lin'an, caused considerable economiclosses. In order to control the disease effectively and reduce the loss investigation of theoccurrence and development of Carya cathayensis as well as the fields' control was studied. The results were as following:1. Tussues of stem rot scab collected in main producing areas were separated and twokinds of pathogen L1,L2were obtained. When inoculated in healthy trees, it was found thatthe pathogen L1caused the same symptom as the sick trees in fields. Based on theexperiments it was proved that L1caused this disease in main producing areas.2. Extensive investigations and sample observations on the disease were researched. It was found that the disease occurred prevalently in main areas in Lin'an. Some areas suchas Changhua suffered heavily with over80%incidence of the disease. This disease beganin late March and ended in late November when the pathogen overwintered. There are twopeaks of invasion in April and September.3.Investigation of the disease's occurrence and Epidemic in the main producingareas. It showed that the influencing factors including tree age, canopy density, sitecondition, and management. The results showed that the young trees suffered slightly whiletrees with10-30years old suffered the most heavily. However after30years the sicknessdeclined with the increasing age of trees. It was also found obviously that this disease wasless serious when the canopy density of trees was high and the site conditions andmanagement were better. It had no clear relations with altitude. Most of this factorsindirectly influenced disease occurrence and development by tree size.4.Effective antiseptics tested in lab were used outside for field's control experiment. The results showed that the selected antiseptics displayed certain effect on preventing andcontrol canker disease of Carya cathayensis. In addition, effect of cutting spot addingantiseptic was better than cutting streak and directly laying on antiseptics.
