The leaf shape mutant lines of perennial rye grass (Lolium perenne L.)'Derby' and theseedlings population of 'Derby' were selected to study their physiological and chemicalresponses under drought and low temperature stress. The results were summarized as follows.1. The chlorophyll contents of mutational strains are lower than Derby seedlingspopulation mean value. There are little difference between mutational strains SP and Derby onthe relative water content of leaf, fresh and dry weight of unit leaf. But the leaf width of SP isnarrower than the leaf width of Derby.2. The results of apparent permanent wilting index, relative water content, the activity ofSOD, the content of MDA and the content of PRO under drought treatment indicates thatSP212has the strongest drought resistance. SP215, SP183, SP170, SP77, SP211and SP24hasrelatively stronger drought resistance than Derby. SP110, SP130and SP213has weakerdrought resistance than Derby.3. The results of the content of soluble sugar, relative electric conductivity, the activity ofSOD and the content of MDA indicates that SP77has the strongest cold resistance. SP215,SP183, SP170, SP77, SP211and SP24have relatively stronger cold resistance than Derby.SP215has weaker cold resistance than Derby. The comprehensive analysis of the results of the experiment indicates that SP212has thestrongest drought resistance, SP77has the strongest cold resistance, SP183and SP211haveboth strong drought resistance and cold resistance.
