[Objective] Establish liing measurement method of the orbit for further research of the development rule of orbital cavity; Get adults'relatively complete living measurement normal data of orbital bone diameters and orbital volume; And analyze the relationship of the two for indirect and simple measurement of orbital volume.【Methods】Choose 150 normal adults(300 orbits).male and female were all 75 cases.To obtain the axial and coronal scan data of spiral CT for multi-planar reconstruction (MPR) and volume reconstruction(VR),then to investigate the following indexes.1. The following indexes was investigate in three-dimensional image of VR. Such as the supraorbital notch/hole,4 diameters in the orbital mouth,4 diameters about the orbital surface hole/notch,5 diameters about the superior orbital fissure and inferior orbital fissure;2. The orbital depth, length of medial orbital wall and lateral orbital wall was measured in the axial nerve-optic plane(NOP) image of MPR;3. The length of superior orbital wall and inferior orbital wall was measured in the oblique sagittal image of MPR;4. To measure the area cavity of each orbital floor in the axial image of MPR, then calculate the orbital volume;5. The orbital bone diameters and orbital volume of different orbits and gender were analyzed and the correlation between orbital volume and the orbital bone diameters were estimated.【Results】The results were as follows:1. Supraorbital notch/hole has 4 forms:single hole, double holes,1 hole 1 notch, single notch. They were separately 111 orbits (37.00%),7 orbits (2.33%),18 orbits (6.00%),164 orbits (54.67%).There are no differences in gender and orbits.2.4 diameters in the orbital mouth was measured:orbital width, orbital height, interorbital distance, outerorbital distance. They were separately 37.25±2.10mm, 36.14±1.88mm,22.47±3.26mm,96.80±3.21mm in male cases; 36.73±1.72mm, 36.52±2.11mm,21.92±2.88mm,95.01±3.29mm in female cases.And the orbital width and orbital height were separately 36.75±1.92mm,36.20±2.03mm in left orbits; 37.20±1.91mm,36.48±2.01mm in right orbits.The male is little bigger than female in orbital width, interorbital distance and outerorbital distance;the right orbit is slightly higher than the left in orbital width and orbital height (P<0.05).The other have no differences (P<0.05)3.4 diameters about the orbital surface hole/notch was measured:the distance from the supraorbital foramen to supraorbital margin, the supraorbital notch/hole to the sagittal midline of the head, the infraorbital foramen to infraorbital margin, the infraorbital foramen to the sagittal midline of the head. They were separately 4.06±1.38mm,25.00±3.37mm,8.08±1.64mm,27.32±1.99mm in male cases; 3.67±1.18mm,23.89±3.15mm,7.84±1.28mm,26.31±1.87mm in female cases; 3.64±0.68mm,23.98±3.05mm,7.96±1.31mm,26.04±1.81mm in left orbits; 3.95±1.24mm,24.87±3.49mm,7.85±1.61mm,27.72±1.96mm in right orbits.The male is little bigger than female in the supraorbital notch/hole to the sagittal midline of the head;the right orbit is slightly higher than the left in the distance from the supraorbital foramen to supraorbital margin, the supraorbital notch/hole to the sagittal midline of the head, the infraorbital foramen to the sagittal midline of the head (P<0.05).The other have no differences (P<0.05)4.5 diameters about the superior orbital fissure and inferior orbital fissure was measured:the leading edge of the superior orbital fissure to supraorbital margin, the leading edge of the superior orbital fissure to outer orbital margin, the leading edge of the inferior orbital fissure to infraorbital margin, the leading edge of the inferior orbital fissure to outer orbital margin, the leading edge of the inferior orbital fissure to infraorbital margin in the sagittal split plane of orbital population. They were separately 42.04±3.85mm,36.27±4.22mm,18.56±3.05mm,15.65±2.67mm, 26.68±3.28mm in male cases; 40.71±3.43mm,36.10±3.44mm,18.22±2.32mm, 15.27±2.09mm,26.12±2.99mm in female cases; 41.83±3.61mm,36.45±3.95mm, 18.60±2.55mm,15.44±2.38mm,25.63±3.00mm in left orbits; 40.85±3.73mm, 36.04±3.72mm,18.11±2.71mm,15.54±2.36mm,27.24±3.04mm in right orbits. The male is little bigger than female and the left orbit is slightly higher than the right in the leading edge of the superior orbital fissure to supraorbital margin;the right orbit is slightly higher than the left in the leading edge of the inferior orbital fissure to infraorbital margin in the sagittal split plane of orbital population (P<0.05).The other have no differences (P<0.05)5.5 diameters about optic hole was measured:orbital depth, length of medial orbital wall, lateral orbital wall, superior orbital wall and inferior orbital wall. They were separately 39.52±2.43mm,37.12±2.70mm,45.79±2.40mm,45.12±2.33mm, 49.36±2.67mm in male cases; 38.64±2.15mm,36.77±2.31mm,44.43±1.99mm, 43.58±2.03mm,48.53±2.61mm in female cases; 38.92±2.37mm,36.91±2.66mm, 44.84±2.22mm,44.41±2.37mm,49.04±2.78mm in left orbits; 39.44±2.29mm, 36.97±2.43mm,45.44±2.37mm,44.41±2.35mm,48.95±2.64mm in right orbits. The male is little bigger than female in orbital depth, length of lateral orbital wall, superior orbital wall and inferior orbital wall(P<0.05).The other have no differences (P<0.05)6. The orbital volume is 23.59±2.26mm3 in male cases;21.00±1.76mm3 in female cases; 22.37±2.41mm3 in left orbits;22.71±2.45mm3 in right orbits. The male is little bigger than female and there were no difference in orbits. The diameters all have positive correlation with orbital volume:4 in orbital mouth.5 about superior orbital fissure and inferior orbital fissure,5 about optic hole. The outerorbital distance and length of superior orbital wall have more correlation with orbital volume, r>0.9.【Conclusion】The reconstructed image is clear and with high-resolution after spiral CT scan for the measurement of orbital bone diameters and orbital volume,witch can be used in the research of orbital cavity development and orbital reconstructive. There are difference in sexes of adults normal orbital osseous structure. The measurement data can be used in orbital reconstruction and provide compare of different ages,nations and areas. The correlation between orbital volume and orbital bone diameters is gained for using one bone diameter to speculate orbital volume and other bone diameters.
