Abstract/Summary:
Objective 1. To observe the expression of Ezrin, Paxillin and ERK in the tissue of epithelial ovarian cancer and investigate the relationship of them and clinicopathologic features.2. To explore the effects of Ezrin, Paxillin and ERK on the long-term prognosis and the meaning of invasion and metastasis of ovarian cancer, in order to provide the new target of the treatment of ovarian cancer.Methods One hundred and forty eight tissues embedded by paraffin were studied which were surgically excised in Tianjin central gynecology and obstetric hospital from February in 2004 to December in 2006, including 62 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer,26 cases of borderline ovarian tumors,30 cases of ovarian cyst and 30 of normal ovarian tissue. Their clinical data were collected including age, pathologic type, surgical pathology stage, therapy, pathologic classification and so on. The immunohistochemistry method was applied to determine the expressions of Ezrin, paxillin and ERK.Results 1. The positive rates of Ezrin in epithelial ovarian cancer, borderline ovarian tumors, ovarian cyst and normal ovarian tissue were 73.3%,67.7%,53.8% and 40.3%;, The positive rates of paxillin in epithelial ovarian cancer, borderline ovarian tumors, ovarian cyst and normal ovarian tissue 36.7%,46.7%,57.7% and 69.4%; and The positive rates of ERK 36.7%,43.3%,61.5% and 66.1%, respectively (P<0.05).2. There were statistical differences in the different surgical pathology stage in the positive expressions of Ezrin, paxillin and ERK (P<0.05), whereas no differences were found in the different ages and pathologic type (P>0.05).3. The expression of ERK was positive correlation with Paxillin (P<0.05) in the tissue of epithelial ovarian cancer.Conclusions 1. The increased expression of paxillin and ERK and the decreased expression of Ezrin and their correlation with surgical pathology stage, pathologic classification, lymphatic metastasis showed that they may be involved with the occurrence, development and metastasis of ovarian cancer and molecular mechanism in vicious transformation and metastasis of ovarian cancer cell.2. The abnormal expressions of Ezrin, paxillin and ERK were the main influencing factors resulting in the relapse and be instructive and meaningful to the prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer.3. The positive correlation was found in the expression of Paxillin and ERK and the no correlation was found in the expression of Paxillin and Ezrin, which showed Paxillin and ERK were involved in the occurrence, development, invasion and metastasis of epithelial ovarian cancer in different pathway.
