Object:To investigate the protective effects of ascorbic acid on renal ischemia/ reperfusion in STZ-induced diabetic rat.Method:Thirty-two SD rats were randomly devided into four groups, groupA (n=8)and the other twenty four rats were induced diabetes by STZ, then were randomly divided into three groups with 8 rats each.Group A was control;Group B and group C rats were given normal saline 0.5ml/day,i.P, for 15 days;GroupD rats were given ascorbic acid 200mg/kg/day,i.P.,for 15 days; The left renal artery and vein of group C and group D rats were occluded for 30 min at the 18 th day, followed by 24 h of reperfusion. Results:Compared to group D,the serum BUN,SCr,MDA level significant higher in group C (P<0.05).In histopathological examinations, treated with VC can significant reduce the tubular cell damage, and reduce the expresion of Cytc and caspase-3.Conclusion:Vc treatment reduces renal injury by reducing lipid oxidation and reducing cell apoptosis and improving renal function in STZ-induced diabetic rats exposed to IR.
