BackgroundUltrasound-guided interventional therapy is more commonly used nowadays. There are a variety of treating methods of ultrasound-guided ablation, including Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA),Microwave Coagulation Therapy (MCT),High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU),Percutaneous Ethanol Injection (PEI) and Cryotherapy. They have been widely used in clinical practice and has achieved good results, but every treatment has its advantages and disadvantages [1]. Currently,RFA and MCT are two commonly used thermal ablation approaches in clinical field. However, the general power and ablated zone are comparatively larger according to RFA and MCT. In addition, the two approaches are restricted by conventional ablative zone with high risks, such as small organ tumors, tumors near to vital organs, blood vessels with tumor thrombus. The ablation time is a little longer.Laser ablation,LA,as a new clinical minimally invasive technique, efficiently integrates the features and advantages of the laser. With its precise, fast and safe characteristics,it breaks through the traditional restricted ablative zone (small organs tumors, tumors near to vital organs and other areas) [2]. Currently,it has been used in thyroid nodules, tumors in high-risk zones and tumors in the lung [3,4]. However, the domestic research and advancement of this technology is relatively less.ObjectiveTo explore the ultrasound performance and related factors on the role of normal living rabbit's liver by laser ablation.MethodsUse ECHO LASER integrated laser interventional ultrasound system to ablate the rabbit's liver tissue, observe necrosis of the lesion and performance of pathology and anatomy.ResultsThe outline of the lesion is ellipse like. The two-dimensional US shows regular hyperecho area in the center, mild strong echo in the peripheral and mild attenuation backward. After dissection, the center of the lesion is slag-like carbon, the peripheral is necrosis area;HE staining shows:the center of the lesion is cavity like and dye-free,peripheral area is irregular red staining, the surrounding area is infiltrative inflammatory cells ; Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) shows a "filling defect" of contrast media in the ablated area. Different power and time leads to differences of the ablative effect and lesion size:the more power and time, the bigger of the ablative size. The ablative effect and lesion size is stable in 3W 10Min and 5W 6Min groups and cause the complete necrosis of the zone. There exist statistical differences among the two groups.ConclusionsLaser Ablation can cause fast, precise, effective and safe necrosis of the liver tissue and the more power and time, the bigger of the ablative size.
