Object:To assess the surgical result and clinicopathologic features of hepatic metastases from gastric adenocarcinoma to identify patients with a better probability of survival.Methods:25 patients underwent a hepatic synchronous resection for gastric cancer metastases at the Sun Yat-sen Uinversite Cancer Centry. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical outcome of surgical resection, include the general date, pathologic type, clinical stage of the primary tumor, clinical stage of liver metastases, treatment after operation and lifetime from 1998 to 2010. According to the follow-up data calculation survival rates, univariate and multivariate analysis clinicopathologic factors. Results:The overall 1-year,3-year, and 5-year survival rates after hepatectomy for gastric metastases were 90.0%,63.0%, and 21.0%, respectively. The median survival was 44 months (range,3 to 117 months), The age; general form of primary tumor; histologic differentiation of the primary tumor; number of liver metastases; diameter of liver metastases were significate prognostic factor according to univarate analyses, the sex;serum carcinoembryonic antigen level before hepatectomy, type of primary tumor resection; serosal invasion; lymphatic invasion; pathologic type TNM stage of primary tumor; distribution of liver metastases; chemotherapy postoperation were not significate prognostic factor. The Cox multivariate proportional hazard model indicated that independent prognostic factors were general form of primary tumor(P=0.030); histologic differentiation of the primary tumor(0.029); number of liver metastases(P=0.041); diameter of liver metastases(P=0.028).Conclusion:Surgical resection for liver metastases of gastric cancer may be prolong patient survival.
