[Objective] The aim of this study was to compare the effects of traditional medcine with the radiotherapy after the operation of the pigmented villonodular synovitis.[Methods] From February 2000.to December 2010,44 patients were diagnosed with the pigmented villonodular synovitis in our department. They were all did arthroscopy operations and made pathological test to asure the diognonsis of the pigmented villonodular synovitis.16 of them(team B) between January 2008 to Devember 2010 were given traditional Chinesemedcine treatment after the operations and then followed up averaged 17.4 months (2-28 months,) with the Lysholm score to evaluate the function. And calculated the rate of the recidivation.28 of them (team A) between February 2000 to November 2007 were given radiotherapy, and then made a comperation about the function and the rate of the recidivation with chi square test. [Results] In team A, two of the patients had recidivations,22 in 28 got satisfactory efforts. In team B, the number of the recidivation is one,13 patients got satisfactory efforts. The chi square test result about the satisfactory efforts between two teams is 0.0449, P>0.05; About the recidivation is 0.0128, P>0.05.[Conclusion] The comparation between traditional Chinese medcine and the radiotherapy after the operation of the villonodular synovitis showed no statistical contrast in a short-time investigation. The traditional Chinese medcine can not only assure the satisfactory efforts, but can also avoid the complications from radiotherapy.
